Inside the Raslan Trial: I know we defected relatively late, but…

SJAC’s 51st trial monitoring report details day 101 of the trial of Anwar Raslan in Koblenz. The Court heard from a former colonel who served at the Syrian Ministry of Interior and was a friend of Raslan. He said Raslan defected relatively late because he was concerned about his family and had to take a long route to the Jordanian border that was littered with checkpoints. The Prosecutors objected to the Defense’s request to hear additional witnesses, arguing that the fact that Raslan helped people and pre-planned his escape from Syria was irrelevant because he carried out orders to torture thousands of people, and he reported back to his superiors about these activities.
