Inside the Raslan Trial: “I am not me.”

SJAC’s 29th trial monitoring report details days 63 + 64 of the trial of Anwar Raslan. The court first heard the testimony of P28, who was detained at a checkpoint in Harasta in 2012 and was held in the “Death Cell” of Al-Khatib Branch. He described the cell as being dark and airless, like a grave. On the following trial day, P29 told the court how he was detained at a checkpoint due to an alleged defect in his ID card. Before arriving to Al-Khatib, security officials took P29 and other detainees to a random location where they threw cigarette butts at the detainees’ backs, beat them, and sexually abused them.
