Higher Regional Court – Frankfurt, Germany
Trial Monitoring Summary #20
Hearing Date: August 12, 2022
SJAC’s 20th trial monitoring report details day 29 of the trial of Alaa M. in Frankfurt, Germany. After watching a short clip of a man with a blurred face talking about his experiences being mistreated at the Homs Military Hospital, the defense team continued questioning the second survivor-witness in the trial. The witness affirmed that he was in the video, but that he did not agree to its publication, nor did he know that it was published. Once there were no more questions related to the video, the in-court questioning of the second survivor witness in the trial was completed.
CAUTION: Some testimony includes descriptions of torture.
Note that this summary is not a verbatim transcript of the trial; it is merely an unofficial summary of the proceedings.
Day 29 – August 12, 2022
The Court first inspected a video showing a person with a blurred face talking about experiences of torture at Homs Military Prison and Alaa M.’s involvement therein. Then, the defense team continued their questioning of the second survivor-witness in the trial. He was questioned about the video, which he claimed to originate from a videocall he had with a friend, but was published without his knowledge or consent. This was the last day of the in-court testimony of the second survivor-witness in this trial.
