Avi Asher-Shapiro examines ongoing efforts by social media companies to remove images and videos that show evidence of atrocities in Syria and how it threatens the building of legal cases against perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) Executive Director Mohammad Al Abdallah states that social media companies do not understand the significance of such content to human rights documentation efforts. “They just don’t appreciate what’s going on on their platforms,” says Al Abdallah.
