About the Syria Justice and Accountability Centre

SJAC is a leading Syrian human rights organization striving to achieve justice for crimes committed during the Syrian conflict. SJAC documents violations, supports criminal cases against Syrian perpetrators, and searches for those still missing. SJAC’s capacity building program seeks to utilize the team’s expertise and resources to support peer organizations around the world.

Position Summary

SJAC is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator to oversee coordination of SJAC’s capacity building support to human rights organizations worldwide. The Program Coordinator will coordinate with partners to arrange for high-impact trainings, manage SJAC’s online library of training resources, and draft and edit training materials with support from the team.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and conduct outreach with relevant partner organizations seeking training in documentation, analysis, and human rights.
  • Coordinate between SJAC’s expert trainers and external partners to arrange customized trainings.
  • Draft and edit human rights training materials, with support from senior SJAC staff
  • Manage SJAC’s online training library, publishing new courses and tracking usage.
  • Maintain clear records of trainings, track and analyze relevant monitoring and evaluation indicators, and draft donor reporting.
  • Draft and track budgets, with support from the financial team.
  • Draft content for SJAC’s website and social media pages to publicize the work of the capacity building team.
  • Support senior staff in researching and developing proposals and other tasks as deemed necessary for new business development.
  • Other administrative and programmatic duties, as needed.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Middle East Studies, Political Science, or related field. Advanced degree an asset.
  • Two to five years of professional experience (including internships) in a nonprofit organization or similar institution.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multi-task, and ability to work under and adhere to tight deadlines.
  • A strong communicator who is comfortable in an external facing role and working with diverse, international partners.
  • Interest in the field of human rights and transitional justice.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Arabic preferred, but not required.

Salary: Starting salary is dependent on education and experience within established bands of compensation. SJAC anticipates offering a starting salary of $55,000 - $65,000 for this role.

SJAC has a hybrid work policy. While employees are occasionally expected to report to the office for in person events or meetings, they are otherwise free to split their working time between our DC office and their home within the Washington metropolitan area according to their preferences.
