OpenCanada - In Spain, will a pioneering case bring justice for Syrian victims?

Cristina Roca reports on the acceptance of a case in the Spanish national court into alleged crimes of nine senior Syrian government officials against Abdulmuemen Alhaj Hamdo, a truck driver forcibly disappeared, tortured, and killed in prison in Damascus in 2013.

Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) Executive Director Mohammad Al Abdallah expresses support for bringing such cases before foreign courts, yet cautions against unrealistic expectations such as arrests or jail time for President Bashar Al-Assad and other high-level officials.
