Inside the Raslan Trial: Notes of Compassion from Raslan and SCM’s Director Testifies

SJAC’s thirteenth trial monitoring report details days 32 and 33 of the trial of Anwar Raslan and Eyad Al-Gharib in Koblenz, Germany. During the proceedings, the court heard testimony from Mazen Darwish, head of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM). He told the court about the situation in Syria before and after 2011 as well as his own experiences during several detentions. The second witness testified on two meetings he had with Raslan as well as several phone calls. Raslan was apparently moved by the health and detention situation of the witness’s cousin and in 2013 expressed his hope that they might be able to return to Syria soon.
