Inside the Alaa M. Trial #15: We Are Trying
SJAC’s 15th trial monitoring report details day 21 of the trial of Alaa M. in Frankfurt, Germany. The Court heard the testimony of an interpreter working for the German asylum authorities. She was questioned about the asylum hearing for a previous witness in the trial, but could not remember the details due to the amount of asylum hearings at which she serves as an interpreter. The defense team also submitted maps of Damascus to show where Alaa M.’s postponement from military service was admitted. Alaa M. and the defense team also provided a potential explanation on why M.’s military booklet states a different city for 2012 than where he told the Court that he lived at the time.
