English/Arabic Interpreter-Missing Persons Team (Consultant)

Location: Erbil, Iraq or Northeast Syria

About the position:

SJAC is seeking an interpreter to provide English to Arabic and Arabic to English consecutive, in-person interpretation services for SJAC’s Missing Persons Team. The consultant will be responsible for interpreting in-person technical trainings both in the classroom and during field exercises. SJAC will consider consultants based in Erbil, Iraq and Northeast Syria who are able to travel between Raqqa, Syria and Erbil for trainings.  SJAC anticipates the consultant working approximately 120 days between October 2024 and December 2025.

General Duties:

  • Provide interpretation for SJAC in-person technical trainings.

Qualifications:

3+ years’ experience in professional English to Arabic and Arabic to English interpretation.

  • Ability to provide high quality consecutive interpretation.
  • Familiarity in interpreting technical content. Experience interpreting medical or scientific content preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Syrian conflict is preferred.
