Arabic-Language Social Media Consultant

(1 position – 70%)

Reports to: Program Officer - Investigations

Location(s): Remote

About the Consultancy:

The Media Consultant will communicate universal jurisdiction news to Syrians through different social media platforms. The consultant will also support SJAC with additional Arabic-language media research, as needed.

SJAC anticipates that the selected candidate will work approximately 13 days per month through September 2025, with the possibility for non-competitive extension beyond that date, pending availability of funds.

General Duties:

  • Inform SJAC’s social media following about universal jurisdiction cases in Europe by making public posts
  • Follow news stories related to universal jurisdiction cases in Europe
  • Report relevant universal jurisdiction news and trends to community advocates and Team Lead – Case Building
  • Collect Syrian readers’ opinions and feedback on universal jurisdiction
  • Support SJAC with additional media research on human rights violations in Syria, as needed

Qualifications:

  • University degree required. A degree in humanities/social sciences is preferred, along with knowledge of human rights and international law is an added asset;
  • 2+ years work experience with an Arabic-language media organization; social media experience preferred
  • Fluency in Arabic (including Syrian Arabic dialects) is required. English is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of Syria and the Syrian conflict is essential
  • Demonstrated understanding of universal jurisdiction cases against Syrian perpetrators in Europe
  • Understanding of media topics relevant to Syrian audiences in Europe
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; along with Facebook and other social media platforms
  • Ability to function professionally and effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
